Learning ObjectivesBy the end of Week 6, participants will be able to:
  • Design a basic professional development session to introduce AI in schools.
  • Identify opportunities to advocate for ethical and inclusive AI practices.
  • Reflect on their evolving role as educators in shaping AI-literate communities.

Learning ActivitiesActivity 1: Develop a School Workshop Outline – “AI in Our School”Objective: Create a staff PD plan introducing colleagues to AI’s role in education.
Instructions:
  • Brainstorm your school’s current strengths and gaps around AI knowledge.
  • Identify 2–3 tools or ethical issues to include.
  • Use a provided template (or Google Slides) to outline:
    • Title
    • Learning goals
    • Key topics
    • Interactive element (discussion, demo, activity)
    • Resources
  • Share drafts with a peer for feedback.

Activity 2: Reflection Essay – “My Role in the AI Age”Objective: Articulate your evolving role as an educator and advocate in an AI-augmented world.
Instructions:
  • Respond to the prompt:
    “In the age of AI, I see my role as a teacher evolving to…”
  • Suggested topics:
    • Advocacy
    • Student empowerment
    • Curriculum transformation
    • Equity and access
  • Target length: 400–600 words

Activity 3: AI Leadership SimulationObjective: Practice responding to real-world AI-related challenges in school communities.
Instructions:
  • Read one of the following scenarios (provided in handout or LMS):
    • A parent challenges the use of AI writing tools in the classroom.
    • Your school board wants to invest in AI surveillance software.
    • A colleague is hesitant to integrate AI because of job security fears.
  • In small groups or breakout rooms:
    • Roleplay educator, administrator, and parent perspectives.
    • Discuss an ethical and practical response plan.
  • Debrief together.

GROUP ACTIVITY 1: Design a Staff Workshop Using AI Tools

Title: “Build It With Bots: AI as a Co-Planner”
Objective: Collaboratively design a professional development workshop using AI tools for content creation, slide design, and differentiation.
Tools to Use:
  • ChatGPT – for outlining session topics, writing learning objectives
  • Canva (with Magic Write) – to co-create presentation slides and graphics
  • Curipod – for creating an interactive AI-powered slideshow or lesson
Instructions:
  1. Assign team roles: Facilitator, Researcher, Designer, Editor.
  2. Use ChatGPT to generate:
    • Workshop titles
    • Learning objectives
    • Discussion prompts or ethical dilemmas
  3. Use Canva’s Magic Write to draft a one-slide agenda and an engaging visual for your school setting.
  4. Use Curipod to turn your session into a short interactive module for colleagues.
  5. Present your PD draft to another group for feedback.
Outcome: A shareable PD session prototype enhanced by AI.

🔹 INDIVIDUAL ACTIVITY 1: Reflective Essay with AI Prompt AssistanceTitle: “Me, An Educator in the AI Age”
Objective: Reflect on your professional identity using AI to refine writing and organization.
Tools to Use:
  • ChatGPT or GrammarlyGO – for structure suggestions, tone adjustment, and grammar support
Instructions:
  1. Draft your reflection essay (400–600 words) on the prompt:
    • “In the age of AI, I see my role evolving to…”
  2. Use ChatGPT to:
    • Suggest a strong opening or thesis statement
    • Identify parts that could be more concise or powerful
    • Generate an alternate version with a different tone or style (optional)
  3. Revise your draft using feedback from the AI tool and your own judgment.
Outcome: A polished reflective essay ready for your professional portfolio.

🔹 GROUP ACTIVITY 2: Role-Playing Ethical AI Challenges with AI-Augmented ScenariosTitle: “Ethics Unplugged: Simulate the Storm”
Objective: Practice responding to ethical dilemmas using AI-generated conversation starters and role perspectives.
Tools to Use:
  • ChatGPT – for generating dialogue scripts, ethical arguments, and suggested responses
Instructions:
  1. Select a school-based scenario (e.g., AI surveillance policy, plagiarism concerns, parental objections).
  2. Use ChatGPT to:
    • Generate a realistic back-and-forth dialogue between stakeholders (admin, teacher, parent, student)
    • Ask for 3–5 solutions or compromises
  3. Assign group members roles to act out the conflict and explore resolution paths.
  4. Debrief: What worked? What felt realistic? What role did AI play in navigating the challenge?
Outcome: Deeper understanding of practical and ethical tensions around AI in education.

🔹 INDIVIDUAL ACTIVITY 2: AI-Backed Advocacy PlanningTitle: “AI Action Plan: Championing Change”
Objective: Create a mini action plan for AI literacy or teacher support in your school using AI for research and formatting.
Tools to Use:
  • Eduaide or Diffit – for scaffolding ideas and customizing strategies by audience
  • ChatGPT – for formatting and writing support
Instructions:
  1. Choose a focus area:
    • Student AI literacy
    • Staff training on ethical AI
    • Addressing equity in access to tools
  2. Use Eduaide to get scaffolded frameworks (e.g., PD outlines, classroom ideas).
  3. Use ChatGPT to:
    • Write a short proposal (intro, rationale, 2–3 steps, evaluation)
    • Format it as a memo, email to admin, or newsletter blurb
Outcome: A finished, ready-to-send proposal for leading AI integration in your school.
