Workshop Title: “Teaching with AI: Tools for Equity and Engagement”
Week 4 Focus:
Integrating AI as a Teaching Tool
This workshop helps educators explore how to responsibly integrate AI in instruction by analyzing current tools, evaluating their educational use, and crafting thoughtful reflections and lesson ideas.

Objectives:Participants will:
  • Identify and test key AI tools for classroom use.
  • Read and analyze texts on AI in education.
  • Reflect on responsible and equitable implementation of AI tools.
  • Draft a classroom-ready mini lesson or activity enhanced by AI.
  • Practice citing sources and synthesizing ideas from digital readings.

Guided Reading Protocol
1. Skim and Scan:

  • What are some ethical risks mentioned?

Part II: Writing Workshop
Mini-Lesson: Responsible AI Integration
Facilitator models:
  • How to evaluate AI tools using a critical lens.
  • Example: Using ChatGPT for feedback while maintaining student voice.
  • Frame: “AI as a supplement, not a substitute.”
Writing Prompts (Choose One)
Prompt 1 – Reflective Paragraph:
Describe how you could use one AI tool to support equity or differentiation in your classroom.
Prompt 2 – Argument Paragraph:
Should AI tools be a core part of K–12 education? Support your view with evidence from the readings.
Prompt 3 – Application Plan:
Create a short (2–3 sentence) description of an AI-enhanced mini-lesson or activity for your subject.

Peer Review and Publishing
Peer Review Protocol – “TAG” Method:
  • Tell one strength.
  • Ask one clarifying question.
  • Give one suggestion.
Publishing Options:
  • Share in small groups or post to a shared Google Doc or Padlet.
  • Save in your professional reflection portfolio.

Optional AI-Integrated Extension
Hands-on Exploration:
  • Use one tool (e.g., Eduaide, Curipod, ChatGPT) to assist with your lesson/activity idea.
  • Compare your original and AI-assisted versions.
  • Reflect: What improved? What needs your judgment?
