Informational Texts and Research
The theme is “Discovering the World,” and it focuses on main idea, supporting details, text features, and research. Each session uses public domain works with complete URLs, aligned to:
  • RI.6.2 – Determine main idea
  • W.6.7 – Conduct short research projects
  • W.6.8 – Gather relevant information
  • L.6.4 – Determine meaning of words

Session 1: What is Informational Text?
Focus: Identify features of informational texts (headings, captions, bold words, etc.)

Focus: Determine the main idea of a short article

Focus: Use bold words, captions, and headings to improve comprehension
