AP Macroeconomics Rubrics

AP Macroeconomics FRQs (Free Response Questions). This rubric can be used for grading and provides clear guidelines on what makes a high quality answer:
AP Macroeconomics FRQ Rubric**
#1. Understanding the Question (0–2 points)**
 **2 points:** The response clearly addresses all parts of the question and fully demonstrates an understanding of the underlying economic concepts.
 **1 point:** The response addresses most parts of the question, but may demonstrate a partial or limited understanding of the relevant economic concepts.
 **0 points:** The response does not address the question properly or misunderstands key economic concepts.
 
#2. Economic Theory (0–3 points)**
 **3 points:** The response correctly applies relevant economic theories, models, or graphs with accurate labels and explanations, and integrates these concepts appropriately.
 **2 points:** The response applies relevant economic theories or models, but with minor inaccuracies or limited integration.
 **1 point:** The response includes some relevant economic theories but is incomplete, incorrect, or lacks integration with the question.
 **0 points:** The response does not demonstrate any application of economic theory or models, or the application is completely incorrect.
 
#3. Analytical Skills (0–3 points)**
 **3 points:** The response demonstrates strong analytical skills by logically explaining the relationships between economic variables and accurately forecasting outcomes or effects.
 **2 points:** The response includes a partially correct analysis, but the explanation of the relationships between variables or the outcomes is flawed or incomplete.
 **1 point:** The response includes an attempt at analysis, but it is unclear, incomplete, or partially incorrect.
 **0 points:** The response lacks analysis or provides an incorrect analysis with no explanation.
 
#4. Clarity and Organization (0–2 points)**
 **2 points:** The response is clearly organized, with a logical flow of ideas and appropriate transitions. The response is wellwritten and easy to understand.
 **1 point:** The response is organized but may be somewhat unclear or difficult to follow. Ideas are generally understandable but lack cohesion.
 **0 points:** The response is disorganized or unclear, making it difficult to follow the logic or understand the argument.
 
#5. Graphs and Diagrams (if applicable) (0–2 points)**
 **2 points:** The response includes relevant, welldrawn, and correctly labeled graphs or diagrams, with appropriate explanations of the graph’s meaning.
 **1 point:** The response includes a graph or diagram that is partially correct or lacks correct labeling or explanation.
 0 points:** No graph or diagram is included, or the graph/diagram is irrelevant or incorrect.
 
#6. Real World Application and Context (0–1 point)**
**1 point:** The response connects economic theory to real world situations or provides relevant examples that strengthen the argument.
**0 points:** The response does not include relevant real world examples or context.
Total Points: 0–13 points**
 
**10–13 points:** Excellent response that fully addresses the question with strong understanding, accurate theory application, solid analysis, clear organization, and relevant examples or graphs.
**7–9 points:** Good response with minor errors or omissions in theory, analysis, or clarity.
**4–6 points:** Fair response that addresses the question but lacks depth in theory, analysis, or explanation.
 **0–3 points:** Poor response that demonstrates significant misunderstanding of the question or economic concepts.
This rubric helps ensure that all necessary components of a strong FRQ response are addressed and graded consistently.
